AUTODESK MAYA

Autodesk Maya is a 3D computer graphics software application that runs on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

Software applications such as MAYA are referred to as ‘frequency bound’ or single threaded. This means that when using the software its performance is tied directly to the frequency (clock speed) of the workstation processor and that multiple CPU cores will not be utilized.

MODELING
If you are using Maya for modeling applications such as extruding polygons, manipulating vertices and building out meshes or 3D animation, you’re using only one (1) CPU core. Therefore you’ll be better off using a workstation that has a lower CPU core-count and higher core-frequency. In order to increase performance and productivity, you should get a workstation with a single CPU that runs at a higher clock-speed. We also recommend that you use a good GPU for smooth display of the 3D graphics.

RENDERING
Rendering 3D Creations is a very multi-threaded process. For this reason, higher core count processors will produce faster results. We recommend multi-core, hyper-threaded processors such as Intel Core i7, i9 and dual XEON workstations. A hi-performance GPU such as a Quadro P6000, RTX 2080Ti or GTX 1080Ti will help decrease render times and provide smooth playback.

AUTODESK 3DS MAX

Autodesk 3DS Max, formerly 3D Studio and 3D Studio Max, is a professional 3D computer graphics program for creating 3D animations, models, games and images.

Running 3DS MAX software on an off-the-shelf PC solution limits performance and gives you only a fraction of its true potential. Although 3DS MAX is a powerful professional 3D application for animation, modeling and simulation, it is primarily single threaded and multiple CPU cores are not utilized.

MODELING | ANIMATION
3D modeling and 3D animation are ‘frequency bound’ tasks meaning that performance is directly linked to the frequency (clock speed) of the processor. Tasks such as extruding polygons, manipulating vertices and building out meshes use only one (1) CPU core. Therefore you’ll see a significant performance benefit by using a workstation that utilizes a single professionally overclocked CPU. Multiple CPU cores will not improve performance. We also recommend that you use a good GPU for smooth display of the 3D graphics.

MAXON CINEMA 4D

Maxon Cinema 4D is an advanced 3D modeling, animation, motion graphics and rendering software application that includes a toolset of powerful features.

MODELING | ANIMATION
3D modeling and 3D animation within the C4D application are ‘frequency bound’ tasks meaning that performance is directly linked to the frequency (clock speed) of the processor.

RENDERING
Rendering 3D creations is a multi-threaded process requiring multiple CPU processors to increase performance and gain faster results. C4D doesn’t generally benefit from multi-GPU render solutions but if you’re using 3rd party render engines such as Octane or Redshift, it will scale well with additional GPUs. In this instance, you should get a workstation with multiple CPU cores and at least one hi-performance GPU.
